About QAAI
The Civil Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Unit (QAAI) was officially established in October 2018 as the sole entity in the State of Qatar responsible for the independent investigation of civil aircraft accidents and serious incidents.
QAAI reports directly to the Minister of Transport and operates independently of regulatory and judicial authorities. Its purpose is to identify causes and contributing factors to enhance aviation safety.
QAAI also:
Participates in the investigations involving Qatari aircraft, instituted by the foreign investigation authorities
Conducts investigations delegated to Qatar by other States
Investigation Objectives
The objective of a QAAI investigation is the prevention of accidents and incidents. Investigations:
Determine causes and contributing factors
Issue safety recommendations
Prevent recurrence
Do not apportion blame or liability
Investigations are conducted in accordance with:
Qatar Civil Aviation Law (15) of 2002 (as amended)
Civil Aircraft Accident & Incident Investigation Regulation (QAAIR)
ICAO Annex 13 to the Chicago Convention
